Certified EKG Technician (CET) practice exams

NHA's Certified EKG Technician exam — practice against the official CET test plan, with every answer explained.

Or read 15 sample questions with answers.

About the CET exam

The CET exam covers safety and patient care for EKG technicians, acquiring EKGs (equipment, skin prep, lead placement, artifacts, Holter and stress testing) and analyzing tracings (heart rate, rhythm, intervals, arrhythmias and pacemakers).

These practice exams follow NHA's CET test plan: Safety, Compliance and Coordinated Patient Care (32 items), EKG Acquisition (44) and EKG Analysis and Interpretation (24). Tracings are described in words rather than shown as images.

Practice by exam topic

ExamWize practice exams draw questions in these same proportions, from a bank of 596 CET questions. Open a topic for what it covers and free questions with answers.

Who it's for

  • Students finishing an EKG technician program
  • Medical assistants and patient care technicians adding EKG certification
  • Telemetry and monitor technicians

How to prepare

  • EKG acquisition is the biggest domain — memorize all ten electrode positions and common artifacts.
  • Know the graph paper: small box 0.04 s, large box 0.20 s, 25 mm/s and 10 mm/mV.
  • Practice heart rate methods: 6-second strip × 10, 300 ÷ large boxes, 1,500 ÷ small boxes.
  • Learn normal intervals (PR 0.12–0.20 s, QRS under 0.12 s) and the key arrhythmias.

See the free CET cheat sheet for a one-page domain summary, and the content policy for how these questions are written.
