Aviation Mechanic General (AMG) Knowledge Test cheat sheet

A one-page summary of the twelve AMG subject areas (FAA-S-ACS-1, Section I).

Electricity, Math and Physics

  • Ohm's law E = I × R; power P = E × I; series resistances add
  • Circle area πr²; fractions and decimals
  • Bernoulli: faster flow, lower pressure; standard day 29.92 inHg, 15°C

Drawings, Weight and Balance, Fluid Lines

  • Hidden lines are short dashes; the title block holds drawing data
  • Moment = weight × arm; CG = total moment ÷ total weight
  • AN flare 37°; dash size = OD in sixteenths; check the hose lay line

Materials, Ground Ops, Corrosion

  • 2024 aluminum = copper alloy; triangle on bolt head = close tolerance
  • 100LL is blue; Jet A is clear to straw; Class B for fuel fires
  • Galvanic corrosion between dissimilar metals; filiform under paint

Regulations, Inspection, Human Factors

  • Form 337 for major repairs and alterations; 14 CFR 43.9 entries
  • Dye penetrant finds surface cracks; magnetic particle only on ferrous metals
  • Dirty Dozen: complacency, fatigue, lack of communication and more
