The MBLEx is the licensing exam used by most U.S. massage therapy regulatory boards. It covers anatomy and physiology, kinesiology, pathology and contraindications, benefits of soft tissue manipulation, client assessment, ethics and professional practice.
Exam format at a glance
| Format | 100 multiple-choice questions in 110 minutes, delivered as a fixed-length computer-adaptive test at Pearson VUE. Unanswered questions at the time limit mean a failed exam. |
| Cost | FSMTB lists the application fee on its website — check FSMTB for current pricing. |
| Scoring | Pass/fail against a criterion-referenced standard set by FSMTB. FSMTB does not publish a percent-correct cut score, so practice scores here use a 70% line as an estimate, not a prediction. |
| Validity | A passing result supports a license application; it isn't itself a credential. Each state board sets its own licensing requirements. |
