About the SAFE MLO exam
The SAFE Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) Test, National Test with Uniform State Content, is required by the SAFE Act for state licensure. It covers federal mortgage law, uniform state licensing rules, mortgage products and terms, the loan origination process, and ethics.
Loan origination activities and federal law make up just over half of the test. Expect TRID timing and tolerances, ECOA, RESPA, TILA, qualifying ratios and calculations — these practice exams follow NMLS's five content areas and weights.
